The Representative currently serves as a member of the Legislative Council in addition to her position as Chair of the House Election Integrity Committee for the 2025-2026 legislative term.

During the 102nd Legislature, Rep. Smit held the position of Republican Vice Chair of the House Elections Committee. Additionally, she also served on the Agriculture Committee and the Insurance & Financial Services Committee.

Rachelle served as the Martin Township Clerk for seven years, a position that drove her passion for election integrity.

She and her husband, Dave, are also partners in their family dairy farm.

Rachelle was born and raised in West Michigan. She and Dave have been married for 23 years and have 3 sons. They have also had the opportunity to serve as foster parents for several wonderful children over the years and are passionate about adoption. The Smit family lives in Shelbyville and they are members of Georgetown Christian Fellowship. Rachelle enjoys the outdoors, playing golf and hiking trials at the beautiful state parks in the communities she serves.
